About the Position:

A Project Engineer assists the Project Manager and Project Superintendent in managing construction projects from inception to completion of each assigned project. Inspects construction site daily and works with vendors to schedule deliveries, and to ensure that materials are delivered on time. Responsible for reviewing specifications or drawings and ensuring that construction progresses as scheduled and contract specifications are adhered to. Works to ensure that all state, federal, and industry codes or specifications are followed. Also reports to management any deviations and works on corrections. Works in a safe and timely manner with the best quality possible.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to work safely and always wear all required safety equipment.
  • Must be dependable and consistent with regards to attendance and punctuality.
  • Work alongside the Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Manager to complete tasks as assigned.
    Educate yourself about where the Project Manager’s duties end and yours begin to stem any miscommunication; both between the two of you as well as members of the project team.
  • Understand the scope of the project, identify the project participants, keep updated contact information, and ensure you have reliable means of always communicating with the project team.
  • Evaluate the progress of the project to ensure the timeline is followed steadily and consistently. Keep an open line of communication with the project participants so they can alert you to potential problems that might occur.
  • High sense of urgency to get things done.
  • Schedule and coordinate subcontractors.
  • Ensure contractual insurance and indemnification requirements are met.
  • Determine need for special insurance coverage (pollution, cleanup, etc.).
  • Insure OCP, RR Protective, Builders Risk and other Special insurance are in place.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.
  • Job setup – including but not limited to:
    • Setup project budget and cost codes.
    • Prepare subcontracts and purchase agreements.
    Job engineering – including, but not limited to:

    • Obtain required permits.
    • Transmittals, submittals, shop drawings.
    • Layout, surveying.
    • As-builts, quantity books.
    • Job site pictures, cost records.
    Project management – including, but not limited to:

    • Production and cost tracking
    • Scheduling
    • Cost engineering, cost control
    • Personnel selection, training, and development
    • Timecards, employee sign up, layoff slips.
    • Purchase permanent materials.
    • Purchase of/requisition for small tools and consumables.
    • Schedule, obtain, receive, and account for purchases.
    • Cost coding.
    • Equipment selection.
    • Equipment scheduling.
    • Compliance with all contract requirements.
    • Change orders, claims.
    • Project close-out, retention release.
    • Quality assurance.
    • Paperwork, files & records.
    • Maintain job files.
    • Address client needs.
    • Insure subcontractor insurance and bond compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar; and/or 2-5 years of construction experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
  • Proficient with at least one of the following scheduling programs: Phoenix, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6
  • Be familiar with OSHA standards.
  • Strong experience with Earthworks, Concrete, Underground Utilities, and Mechanical Piping.
  • Ability to read blueprints, construction contracts, subcontracts and other construction documents, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to perform assigned record keeping functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a good working relationship diplomatically and effectively with the Owner, the Engineer, Subcontractors, Vendors, co-workers, and anyone else associated with a project.
  • Must be able to travel to and live in remote construction project locations as may be required for whatever periods of time as are necessary to complete such projects.
  • Must be a licensed driver with a driving record and driving ability sufficient to meet company insurance requirements and sufficient to visit job sites, attend meetings, and otherwise travel as necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • Meet all conditions of COP’s drug and alcohol testing requirements as a condition of employment, including pass a pre-employment drug screen and alcohol test.
  • Able and willing to work extended hours and possible nights and weekends, as required.
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
